Emergency crews were called to a fire at a weatherboard home at the intersection of Delacour Drive and Sue See Avenue.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service area commander Ross Mutzelburg said the blaze was well alight when teams of police, firefighters and ambulance workers arrived about 3pm.
He said the fire caused heat and smoke damage to the roof and inside the home to the rear of the house, which the fire crew had under control by 3.30pm.
Mine control room operator Mr Webber shared the home for the past three years with his two dogs.
Mr Webber had one of his dogs at the time of the fire and did not know the whereabouts of the second one, but suspected a neighbour had rescued it.
Mr Mutzelburg declined to speculate on the cause of the fire, but said an investigator would fly from Townsville on Friday to study the remains to ascertain its cause.
Mr Webber, originally from the Gold Coast but a Mount Isa resident for 20 years, said two of his neighbour phoned his work to alert him of the fire and he rushed home.
Shaken after the fire, Mr Webber said he would spend the night at his neighbour’s house.
Friday was Mr Webber’s birthday, but his only plan was to sift through the remains of his home.
He said when he had left the previous morning for work, the only devices that he knew were powered were the TV and fridge. Mr Webber did not speculate the cause of the blaze.
