Young Guns kicked four unanswered goals in the third quarter keeping its opponents goalless that ultimately proved the difference in an enterprising battle on Saturday afternoon.
Young Guns player Jameson Billy and Buffaloes player Scott Dalton both kicked a game-high of three goals apiece for their side in a game where there were 16 different goal kickers.
Nathan Ross entered the fray next kicking his first of two goals for the afternoon while Charles Johnstone earned himself a brace of goals to show for before the interval.
A Travis Willets goal from the Buffaloes was about to be enough to take a slender lead into the break but, to Buffaloes dismay, Young Guns player Selwyn Teece was awarded a free-kick from close range to put the Lake Nash side back in front.
With only a two-point gap between at half-time, it was what came in the corresponding quarter of football that put the second-placed side well ahead of Buffaloes.
Four unreciprocated goals from Young Guns players Trevor Age, Shane Nelson, Anthony Teague, and Ross took its toll on Buffaloes, who played out a goalless quarter.
In the final term, Buffaloes rose to the challenge kicking four goals through Alistair Baker, Dalton, and Trystan Cotterill but were matched all the way with the game ending in a 32-point loss.
Lake Nash Young Guns coach Rohan Webb deemed the result as a “good win” for his side and struggled to pick out any standout players.
“It was a team effort,” Webb said.
“It was tight in the first half but the boys worked hard. We went well around the forward and centre areas.”
