Whitelion/Stride is very excited to announce that On The Ball is back for another year. Australian Basketball greats, past and present, will be spending time with young people in Cloncurry and Mount Isa conducting a free five-day program.
NBL Brisbane Bullets legend Leroy Loggins is a familiar face in both communities and will be joined by Townsville Fire champion Micaela Cocks in Cloncurry while Sydney University Flames superstar Rohanee Cox and former Wollongong Hawks great Cam Rigby are set to visit Mount Isa.
Young people will get the chance to meet and shoot hoops with some of the country’s most successful basketballers who will be facilitating a range of drills, activities and games. There will be medals, competitions, prizes and showbags to give away, and lunch will be provided on the day for program participants.
The program provides a great opportunity for young people to learn about the importance of making healthy choices and the benefits of physical exercise.
It promotes healthy living and helps to build self-esteem, leadership and goal-setting skills.
Whitelion supports young people and helps make the community a more inclusive and safer place – it gives young people the best chance to develop their potential through positive role modelling, mentoring and employment, and the opportunity to build positive and meaningful lives.
On the Ball is part of the Sport For Life program which has been sponsored by Glencore Community Program North Queensland since 2011.
On The Ball program manager Lyn Lenehan is anticipating another year of success surrounding Whitelion/Stride’s program.
Cloncurry will host the first On The Ball program of the school holidays on June 29 and 30 at the Cloncurry PCYC Activities Hall.
The remaining days of the program will be in Mount Isa on July 1-3 at the Mount Isa Basketball Stadium.
