Gallen, who is close to finalising a one-year deal to finish his NRL career with the Sharks, said he was "disappointed and upset" by comments from Flanagan claiming that Origin III would be his last appearance for NSW.

The Sharks veteran said he had never discussed the issue with Flanagan or Blues coach Laurie Daley and would be available for selection in next season's Origin series.

"They are his wishes, they are probably the club's wishes," Gallen said. "But at the end of the day it's my decision and it will be left up to me.

"It's not part of my contract negotiations, it's never been spoken about and to be honest it's not a big issue for me. It's not true."

Asked his initial reaction to Flanagan's comments on the Shark Cast podcast, Gallen told Triple M:  "At first I was pretty disappointed and upset about it. If it's going to be announced and it's true, it should be announced by me."

Flanagan admitted in another interview last week that he was frustrated by the number of matches Gallen had missed by injury, with the 33-year-old forward sidelined since Origin II with rib cartilage damage.

However, Gallen said he would have a blunt response to any request from the Sharks that he stand down from representative football.

"All I can do is come out and say I have been immensely loyal to the club. There has only been one player [Andrew Ettingshausen] who has played more games than me and he is an outside back," Gallen said.

"I have done everything I can for the club. Part of the reason some of the players have come to the club, guys like Luke Lewis, Wade Graham and Chris Heighington, is because I was there and I don't have that profile unless I am NSW captain, unless I am playing rep football.

"As Flanno said in his comments, we love having these players at the club but sometimes injuries happen and we have got to suck it up and get on with it. That is probably going to be my response."

Gallen had not wanted to comment on the issue when contacted by Fairfax Media last Friday but moved to clarify his future before the NSW team was named on Tuesday at Reveseby Workers Club.

"I don't want this next week going into Origin camp being about 'this is going to be my last game'," Gallen said.

"It's not about me, it's about game three for State of Origin and us preparing to win that game. That's all I care about.

"My first focus is getting the ribs right. Then I'll worry about training and winning the game for NSW. The next Origin series is 12 months away. I'll worry about it then."

The Blues are expected to name an unchanged side for Origin II, with second-rower Beau Scott the only concern after injuring his shoulder in Newcastle's loss to Brisbane on Friday night.

Knights officials said the results of scans to determine the extent of Scott's injury would be known on Monday.

If Scott is out, Canterbury backrower Josh Jackson is set to start in his place, with St George Illawarra second-rower Tyson Frizzell, Newcastle forward Tariq Sims or Cronulla utility Luke Lewis set to come into the squad on the interchange bench.
