Our crack (pot) team is back to run the rule over round 13 of the AFL season.

The panel:

Fossie:
1. I think Carton's mini-resurgence under new coach John Barker is good for the game. But the the players' "one-finger touch celebration" after each goal is the most naff thing I've seen in the game for the last 30 years. Just stop it. Please stop it!
2. The Fremantle Dockers have come in for some serious criticism in the last month for being "off their game". The club is sitting on top of the ladder, two games clear of West Coast in second. Talk about tall poppy syndrome.
3. After getting abused by opposition players and supporters for months, Sydney veteran Adam Goodes decided to take matters into his own hands, Oh, hang on, was that actually Tigers' swingman Taylor Hunt's testicles?

Presto:
1. Winning ugly ain't bad. Likely top-four teams Fremantle and Hawthorn are doing it, as is Adelaide. Is it poor form or good practice for similar scenarios come September? Sometimes it's better to win ugly mid-season, bank the four points and fine-tune yourself in the mirror for the months ahead.
2. Mick Malthouse must be really confused (not Confucius). The Blues have gone back-to-back for the first time since round 10 last year and perennial coach-killlers like Tom Bell and West Aussie Dennis Armfield are suddenly playing inspired football. Oh to get inside the mind of the inconsistent AFL player to know what makes them hop or flop on game day. Even the longest-serving coach in AFL history couldn't tick that box.
3. It's official - James Hird is one big sob. Calling Sam Mitchell "naive and idiotic" for his needle-jab jibe at Essendon players was more than a little ironic. Those two words perfectly describe Hird's handling of the supplements saga from day one to day…what are we up to now?. I'm surprised it's taken this long for the "jab-jibe" to surface publicly.

Steve-O:
1. Sam Mitchell is an honest guy. He could have taken a leaf out of Belle Gibson's book and claimed his jab jibe was promoting flu vaccinations.
2. Pav is in a goal slump - three games without. He hasn't gone four in a row since 2002 when he was an All-Australian full-back. Look out, Brisbane.
3. If you ever wanted proof that we love an underdog see Ivan Maric's "penalty kick" goal against the Swans. It's a Steven Bradbury moment timed nicely to coincide with the women's world cup.

The People's Elbo:
1. So Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell felt he had to apologise to families for the "injection" action he made towards Essendon players. OK, if the actions of the Hawk were that insulting, Foxtel should also apologise. No one saw it live, the broadcaster showed it for the first time a long time after it happened.
2. Now that Nat Fyfe has enough votes to win the Brownlow Medal, he can move to centre half-forward and kick the goals the Dockers are going to need to win the flag.
3. Carlton captain Marc Murphy has re-found his best form under John Barker, playing his best three games of the season. Murphy missed the first post-Malthouse game, against Sydney - and has been very good since. A lazy 32 touches against the Gold Coast...

Vent-wistle:
1. The old saying "may the best team win" was shot down in flames at the Gabba. The Brisbane Lions were left lamenting the one that got away as the Adelaide Crows showed you only have to play one good quarter of football to win a game of AFL. The better team on the day did not win (I say this as a card carrying member of the Adelaide Crows).
2. James Hird needs to grab a dictionary and understand the word propaganda. Although Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell's motion during Saturday's game to Essendon's Jobe Watson was possibly uncalled for it definitely wasn't brought about by media propaganda. 
3. Karmichael Hunt's last name would be being mispronounced liberally through the halls of the Gold Coast Suns right about now. The club's administration is demanding names after the former recruit levelled allegations of drug use by senior players while he was at the club. The sooner this off-field drama can be resolved so the focus can go back to their on field drama's the better off the AFL will be.

Whitey:
1. Based on raw talent, every club in need of a key forward should be into Gold Coast's out-of-contract Charlie Dixon. One passage of play on Sunday against Carlton - where he got the ball at ground level, dished it off to a teammate and then sprinted into the forward 50 to offer a target - was Nick Riewoldt-esque (right down to the missed set shot at the end!).
2. Matthew Pavlich might not be taking marks or kicking goals at the moment but without him the Freo forward line would be a mess. The Dockers are bereft of other genuine marking targets, other than when Nat Fyfe and Aaron Sandilands drift foward.
3. The free kick awarded against my Carlton namesake on Sunday for "holding" while trying to separate two players had to be the worst in history:

1. It was embarrassing to see Tendai Mzungu playing at local league level on the weekend. He's way above that level and showed as much...
