Wilkie, who plays for Club Helensvale on the Gold Coast, has won Commonwealth Games bronze medals as part of the successful fours team in 2012 as well as a silver medal in the triples event in 2010.
The new ambassador’s proudest moment to date was winning two world championship medals last year – gold in the team fours and silver in the team triples events.
“Making the Commonwealth Games team and winning a world championship gold medal are the two greatest achievements of my career thus far,” said Wilkie.
Wilkie has continued to play at a high level in bowls making 130 appearances for the Australian team, and counting.
The 41-year-old has also represented his country at international tournaments on more than 150 occasions.
He debuted for the national team in 2009 and is the 130th Australian player to wear the green and gold in the sport of lawn bowls.
As part of his role as Glencore Great Western Games Ambassador Wilkie will be conducting lawn bowls coaching clinics in both Cloncurry and Mount Isa, while also visiting the Mount Isa Health Expo.
