The pieces continue to fall into place for Richmond in their quest to be a genuine finals threat, following the re-signing of star forward Jack Riewoldt.

Riewoldt put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him  at Punt Road until the end of 2019 at least.

The 26-year-old is the latest key player to commit to the Tigers in the past six months following skipper Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Alex Rance.

Indeed, Richmond are not far off achieving their ambitious "3-0-75" plan they unveiled in 2010 that aspired to play finals three times, have zero debt and sign 75,000 members within five years.

With a record 70,000 members, more than $23 million in assets and having posted a $1.3 million operating profit last year – their 10th profit in a row – the Tigers' off-field position is in a very healthy place.

On the field, they are arguably in their best shape  since 2001 as they sit in sixth position on the ladder with a 7-5 record, including wins against Fremantle, Sydney and Port Adelaide away from home.

There's now no doubt that the Tigers are locked, loaded and ready to tick off one very big and vacant box on their checklist – finals success.

Their star players are in the prime of their career and anything less than their first finals win in 14 years this season would be a massive failure.

Riewoldt believes the clutch of significant recent re-signings all amount to a big vote of confidence in the direction the team is headed.

"There's been some fruitful times for the club off the field and on field over the last two months," he told Richmond's website.

"It's certainly exciting times for us, we've been playing some pretty good footy on the field and we're certainly securing some key components off it.

"We feel like we can take it to any opposition on any stage on any day, really."

Riewoldt had the option of becoming a free agent when his current contract expired at the end of next season, but the two-time Coleman medallist said he never really contemplated free agency and stressed the importance of finishing his career as a one-club player.

"For me it's obviously been about getting the Tigers going in the right direction and the Richmond footy club in the right direction and ultimately reaching the goals and successes that we want," he said.

"Obviously we haven't had as much success as we would've liked, but the way we're playing this year and what I can see in some of the younger players that are signing on and playing some footy for the Tiges, it's certainly exciting times ahead.

"I'm absolutely rapt that the club came to me and showed interest in me signing an extension."

Despite playing in the unfamiliar role as a roaming half-forward,  Riewoldt is in the form of his career.

He is not only on track for another 60-plus goals season but also a personal best in disposal and mark tallies. "I've really enjoyed it over the last eight to 10 weeks since the start of the season," Riewoldt said.
