An observatory remains in the grounds of the youth camp and is used by eight club members.
Club secretary and astronomer Len Fulham said the observatory used to offer activities for school camps.
The two-hour lessons focus on sky orientation, meaning children would learn of the main constellations by viewing them through telescopes.
“We used to do the activities and we would like to ramp up those again, Dr Fulham said.
“Maybe a third of camps used to use the observatory.”
Dr Fulham said it was good to see children in the workshops inspired by even one or two new facts about astronomy.
“You can tell if they are having a good time,” he said.
“A lot of children are sitting in front of the TV and not out in the open seeing real things and experiencing it for themselves.
“That’s what the camp’s all about.”
