The ‘Join the Drive’ campaign focuses on giving motorists the power to make the roads safer by airing their own thoughts and ideas on road safety.
Mount Isa Police Sergeant Cath Purcell called on road users to join the camapign and make a positive contribution to driving attitudes.
“This is a beautiful time of year to travel on our roads, the weather couldn’t be more perfect, and there are so many festive events on in communities across the state. We hope you drive safely, and come back refreshed,’’ she said.
Police will be enforcing road rules and maintaining a visible presence to deter bad behaviour on roads across Queensland. The ‘fatal five’ include speeding, seatbelts, fatigue, drink/drug-driving, and distraction/inattention.
“If you are travelling away from home, make a plan to take a break and plan for an enjoyable trip,” Sergeant Purcell said.
“If you begin to feel tired, fatigued, or start to lose concentration, then pull over in a rest area and take a break from driving.”
