Held every year on Independence Day in America, contestants have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as they possibly can. Chestnut, who has won the contest every year since 2007, scarfed down 60 this year...only to be upset by last year's runner-up Stonie, who put away 62.

To give you an idea of just how far ahead of the pack these two were, third placed Tim Janus managed only 35.

"I trained hard for this. This is actually amazing," Stonie told ESPN reporters after his win - which scooped him $10,000 in prize money and the coveted championship belt ... similar to what a boxer or MMA fighter would receive upon winning a championship.

According to the Nathan's website, there were a staggering 17,360 calories in Stonie's 62 dogs, which is more than eight times the recommended daily intake.

Stonie had beaten Chestnut in a series of other foods earlier in the year, but this was the prize that he had coveted the most.

The competitive eating scene may be more popular than you realise, with around one million people tuning in on ESPN to see the contest.
