1. Cooper Cronk v Trent Hodkinson: Cronk has long been NSW's Achilles heel. His game management in Origin I proved the difference with a field goal, while Queensland fell away without him in Origin II. Queensland still believe they lost last years series because Cronk barely featured because of injury. Hodkinson proved the doubters wrong in game two with a controlled performance. His kicking game will need to be better in the decider, while he has to take the line on more. The Blues know they need to limit Cronk's control of the game.

2. David Klemmer v Josh Papalii: While the two bench players may not take to the field at the same time, their roles will be the same; cause havoc. Klemmer comes into the game under more scrutiny than he has ever before after a breakthrough Origin II. He will come under fire from a hostile Queensland crowd, while the Maroons side will try and put him off his game. Papalii will need to replicate the Blues' bench performance from game two, with his role identical to that of Klemmer's.
3. Dane Gagai v Brett Morris: Gagai is on debut and playing in the unfamiliar position of wing. He will oppose the game's best winger in Morris, who will have the advantage of working alongside game two man of the match Michael Jennings. The Blues will test Gagai and put him under enormous pressure defensively. Also expect the bulk of the Blues' kicking game to come Gagai's way. NSW believe he is vulnerable and they will look to take full advantage of his inexperience. The Blues left side will again dominate possession.
