The 2014 club championship winner was barely challenged by the other 62 male competitors, getting his 2015 Open campaign off to a flyer early on.
The 32-year-old recorded a tournament-high gross score of 70 on day one, 73 on day two, 71 on day three, and 76 on day four to finish with a total of 290 – the next closest coming from the previous champion Rob Murphy (304).
Murphy, who won the A-Grade division, conceded that Crouch created an unassailable lead which had the other golfers chasing the leader from the get-go.
“Chris (Crouch) played four good rounds and we just couldn’t catch him,” Murphy said.
Crouch praised the organisation of Mount Isa Golf Club after a very successful week of competitive golf.
“The whole week was run well,” Crouch said.
“Everyone I played with had a good attitude, which made it fun. I’ve been playing pretty good in the lead-up so I was quite comfortable with how I was playing throughout the Open.”
Crouch, who has played golf since the age of eight, said consistency was the key to his win, as well as playing to his strengths.
“I hit the ball a fair way off the tee and around Mount Isa if you get the ball on the fairway then it’s normally not far off the green. I guess I had a few lucky bounces here and there but I played well all week.”
In the women’s Open, Annette Gordon was unstoppable during the two-day event, securing the title ahead of 13 rivals.
Gordon hit scores of 85 on day one and 88 on day two, recording a total gross of 173 – 15 shots ahead of her closest rival.
