Sydney have not ruled out playing Ted Richards this weekend after the defender was knocked unconscious by a Jay Schulz sling tackle last Thursday night.

Swans football general manager Tom Harley said Richards had recovered well despite needing to be stretchered off the SCG and the 32-year-old's chances of backing up had been boosted by there being a 10-day break between Sydney's last game against Port Adelaide and their next game against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday.

Richards' teammate Ben McGlynn (calf) is "touch and go" to line up against the Lions who expect both Mitch Robinson and Brent Staker to play after they picked up minor injuries against Fremantle on Sunday.

Bulldogs veteran Dale Morris is a chance to play against Gold Coast in Cairns on Saturday despite scans revealing he has a slight fracture in his jaw.

Morris suffered the injury against Carlton on the weekend but does not require surgery and will be monitored by the club during the week.

Dogs ruckman Jordan Roughead is also an outside chance of taking on the Suns after being subbed out against the Blues due to back spasms.

However, the news wasn't as good for fellow Bulldogs Mitch Honeychurch and Toby McLean.

Honeychurch is expected to miss the next few weeks due to bruising and muscle spasms in his back while McLean could miss six to eight weeks if his damaged AC joint requires surgery.

The revitalised Suns look set to be boosted by the return of Jarrod Harbrow from an ankle injury but Luke Russell will miss around a month after requiring surgery on his fractured hand.

Geelong could welcome back James Kelly (ankle), Darcy Lang (quad) and Nakia Cockatoo (adductor) for their crunch clash against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium and, in a further boost for the club, injury-plagued forward Daniel Menzel is all set to line up in the VFL after a solid month of training.

Menzel has not played an AFL game since 2011 with four knee reconstructions keeping him sidelined.

Port Adelaide should regain Jackson Trengove for their huge encounter against Collingwood at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night after the key defender sat out the game against Sydney due to the flu and captain Travis Boak has also been cleared to play after rolling his ankle.

Melbourne's chances of scoring a win against beleaguered Essendon have been further bolstered by the likely returns of Jack Grimes (thumb), Aaron vandenBerg (hamstring) and Heritier Lumumba (toe) from injury while Angus Brayshaw is also expected to play after being concussed against West Coast on the weekend.

The Bombers have already been dealt a massive blow with captain Jobe Watson ruled out for the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury but in some good news, Adam Cooney could face the Demons after being subbed off against St Kilda on Sunday due to a minor adductor strain.

And Greater Western Sydney will know later in the week if they will be able to select key players Stephen Coniglio (AC joint) and Nick Haynes (groin).

The pair will have fitness tests before a call is made on their availability for the Giants' encounter with St Kilda at Spotless Stadium on Sunday.
