Cr Bob McDonald stood down as deputy mayor in the Cloncurry Shire meeting on Tuesday due to family reasons, but will remain a councillor.
He previously served as acting mayor during Andrew Daniels’ leave of absence, which was due to illness.
Cr Daniels has been granted another leave of absence until October 1, 2015.
Cr McMillan will step up to her new role during a busy season for Cloncurry, with three large events happening within two months.
The Stockman’s Challenge and Campdraft finishes on Sunday, the Quamby Rodeo is held on Saturday, July 25, and the Curry Merry Muster Festival is held between July 30 and August 2.
“That’s one of the great things about Cloncurry,” Cr McMillan said.
“We can band together and lend a hand when need be.”
Councillors Bob McDonald, Keith Douglas and Colin Ferguson will continue to support the acting mayor with council matters.
