Civoniceva said while he was in Mount Isa for the Broncos dinner, which was held on Friday night, it was also important to take some time out to throw a football with Mount Isa kids and talk to them about the importance of eating healthy and making good choices.
“It is exciting to be able to come along this afternoon for the clinic on behalf of the Broncos,” Civoniceva said.
“I love coming out here and it is a really great breeding ground for talent.”
After retiring three years ago Civoniceva is now in a community engagement role that gives him the chance to travel around Australia talking to kids, encouraging them to practice hard, to eat right and to make good choices in life.
Civoniceva spoke to kids about eating plenty of food but eating the right foods instead of fast foods to stay fit and healthy.
Deadly Choices acting team leader Glen Clarke said kids did eight-minute rotation drills throughout the afternoon to help keep them active.
Fruit and a bottle of water were provided at the end of the drills before Maroons posters were signed by Civoniceva, with plenty of photos taken.
Clarke said the one-off clinic gave the young people of Mount Isa a chance to meet a former Broncos player and to be active.
“The aim for today is getting kids involved and active by meeting a great role model,” Clarke said.
North West Queensland NRL game development officer Laurie Taylor said coaches and Mount Isa NRL youths did a fantastic job.
