Heading into his 400th game against Brisbane last week, Harvey had said he would knock on Scott's door this week and discuss whether he would be wanted next season and given a contract extension.

Harvey has approached Scott this week - but only to implore Scott to maintain the tough, disciplined standards he expects of the club great in wake of Harvey's recent shock demotion to the role of substitute.

"'Boomer' came to speak to me about making sure that I keep the foot on his throat, that I hold him accountable to all the things that we value," Scott said on Wednesday.

"He is actually talking about the opposite [of next year]. He is talking about this week, he is worried about next week - he has a really short-term focus at the moment.

"That is a credit to him. He knows a bit like a team running out to play this weekend, that if you get the little things right, the big things will take care of themselves, and that is our attitude with Boomer at the moment."

Harvey had a team-high 27 disposals against the Lions, prompting Scott to declare in his post-match address that the speedster was still a "valuable commodity".

Harvey's manager Shane Casely has been unavailable for comment this week.

While Harvey enjoys strong form, playmaker Daniel Wells continues his comeback from minor surgery on his troublesome Achilles tendon. He has played just two games in 2015, his last in round two.

The silky midfielder has managed only 12 games since the end of 2013, also because of foot issues. Wells took part in light skills at Arden Street on Wednesday, and it remains unclear if he will play again this year.

"It's slow but steady progress. We are still pushing really hard to get him back before the end of the year. Whether that's really soon or towards the latter rounds, we are not sure," Scott said.

"He will do a bit today and step up his workload again and, hopefully, pulls up OK. Then we will just keep building until we get him into full training. I wish I could give you a more definitive timeline. It's just one of those injuries where it's a day-to-day process."

As the eighth-placed Kangaroos eye a September appearance, Scott said Wells would need to log match time at a lower level before he would be considered for a senior berth. There are six rounds remaining before the finals.

"He has been out for so long that he will need to play footy at a lower level, whether that's a significant match simulation at training or VFL footy. He will need to do a fair bit of that before he is available for AFL selection," Scott said.

Jarrad Waite, however, has a reason to celebrate on Saturday night when he notches his 200th match - against his former club, Carlton.

Waite produced some game-winning efforts for the Blues but, ultimately, he was considered by some at the club as a frustrating talent and left as a free agent last season.

Scott said he hopes Blues supporters make their feelings clear at Etihad Stadium.

"I hope they get into him because he tends to respond to a bit of a prickle, so hopefully they give him a nice rousing ovation and get him all fired up," he said.

"We have been really happy with Jarrad Waite. He is our equal third-highest goalkicker this year. He has only played 16 games - I think that was his maximum over the last four years - this week he will play his 16th for us and there is still a fair bit of the season to go.

"But most importantly for us, it's not just his goal-kicking output. He has completely turned around the way he plays in the last three weeks. He ranks the No.5 in the competition for pressure - that is probably a different Jarrad Waite to what we have probably seen in the past. His teammates are really acknowledging that."

Drew Petrie (four goals) and Ben Brown (three) were in fine touch against the Lions but Waite was subbed off because of balance up forward in what Scott said were tropical conditions similar to wet weather football.

Tall utility Lachie Hansen is also set to return from a hip issue, but this is likely to be through the VFL.

The Roos have won three straight since a shock loss to the Gold Coast Suns. Should they capitalise against Carlton, they then face a struggling Melbourne and a rebuilding St Kilda before finishing the season against top-eight sides Fremantle, Western Bulldogs and Richmond.
