The Giants are treating every game now as a final but their chances of reaching the real September action are being hurt by every injury.

Already without Dylan Shiel and Shane Mumford for the rest of the home and away season, GWS have added Tom Scully and Adam Treloar to their casualty ward, and there is huge doubt over the availability of Stephen Coniglio.

The injuries mean the Giants will enter arguably their biggest game of the year missing their best centre square combination, their best midfield stopper and one of their most important ball-carriers.

Scully is facing three to four weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, possibly ruling him out for the rest of the home and away campaign, while Treloar will miss the trip to Adelaide and possibly the derby against Sydney the week after due to a groin strain.

Coniglio is battling concussion and while the early signs are positive the combination of a six-day break and the caution with which head injuries are now given will count against him.

Adam Kennedy, Tomas Bugg, Curtly Hampton, Jack Steele, Caleb Marchbank and Lachie Plowman have all been listed by coach Leon Cameron as being in contention for a promotion.

"It is a big challenge ... but we feel as though that when players have actually stepped in taken their opportunity through injury or good form, they've stepped up to the mark," Cameron said on Tuesday.

"There's some hungry players as we know at NEAFL level, so there's players there who want to play AFL footy and they want to play it quickly."

The Giants, as Rhys Palmer said, are "bloody excited" to still be in the hunt for the finals so deep into the season but a loss this week will leave them with too big a gap to make up in the final three rounds.

"We're going to play in finals every week now," Cameron said.

"We play a final this week against Port Adelaide, we've got one the week after against the Swans, and so on and so on and so on, which is great.

"Did we predict that we were going to be this close at the start of the year? Probably not.

"I think it's fantastic that we now have an opportunity to win some more games and if we're good enough, you'll be in there."
