Back to the very beginning (by Travis Stanley):

The buildup was massive, perfect conditions for footy saw over 41,000 footy mad West Aussies attend Subi Oval.

The reigning premiers were never going to be matched by Neesham's crew from the port and the 85-point margin at the death was a fair indication of the gulf between the two teams.

The moment that stuck with me and still remains clear in my memory was Eagles captain John Worsfold lining up Freo skipper Ben Allen for a hip and shoulder that would have knocked him halfway back to Fremantle.

Allen had gathered the ball in the middle and was sprinting towards the city end of the oval when the halftime siren went causing him to start to slow down. Worsfold, however, was not of the same inclination and missed a brutal hit on Allen by mere inches.

Had he connected and had the Fremantle captain been stretchered off, war would have broken out in Western Australia.

For me that moment put to bed any notion people had of following both WA clubs in their battles with the despised Vics.
Only one of many fantastic derby memories.

Ballas' goes bang...almost (Sara Doig):

My favourite derby moment was when West Coast were up by a point and Ballantyne was kicking for goal after the siren. We all thought it had gone thru as Ballantyne was celebrating so figured we had lost another derby but then realised it hadn't made it and Eagles had finally won a derby again :)

The derby demolishes Melbournians (Cathryn Cavaney):

In 2000, we lived in Melbourne - right in the heart of Collingwood/Carlton territory.   We copped it left, right and centre about supporting Freo.  Only our postie - a die-hard Collingwood supporter - got our passion.

I was pregnant when the Demolition Derby was on, a couple of mates came to our place to watch.

All our neighbours, workmates, friends said that no one would be interested in a Western Darby - despite us telling them "It's the DERBY!" and "of course they would be interested".

Well the following day, all the talk was abut Freo and their win and how Gardiner should get weeks for his fists.  It was so good our local our replayed it on the big screen on the Thursday night!  Who'd have thought - Freo vs West Coast on the big screen at a Northcote Pub?  We were proud to convert many Victorians to having Freo as their second team.

When Daniel was Kerrific (Caspar Wilkes):

Well first off let me clarify I'm a West Coast supporter living in Fremantle. A cardinal sin in WA. But I think that even though Fremantle are a great side (go WA football! No. 1, No. 2 on the ladder!) I couldn't change sides...

Having said that, my favourite moment has to belong to lately troubled but talented footballer Daniel Kerr.

His goal of the year with a scintillating run through the centre of the ground getting to just inside the 50 arc (bouncing all the way) and drilling it home still brings a smile to my face!!!

I love the passion of our great game. I hope this derby is going to be another great battle and close game showcasing the two best teams in the league....

Remembering the Meda-star (Clair Siva):

Western Derby 2003, round 22. When Paul Medhurst kicked the match winning goal after slipping yet regaining his footing. This earned them their first spot in the finals and that is my favourite derby memory ever.

Familial cruelty (Eileen Thill):

My favourite derby moment is watching my husband cringe when his beloved Eagles get flogged by my beloved Dockers.

A sucker for punishment (Chris Brumby):

The most memorable derby moment for me is a recent one (first derby this year) , and it's not a good one being a WCE supporter.

I can still remember thinking it's gonna be a long game sitting in the members section watching the flogging after Freo smashed 51 points in the first quarter.

I always watched teams getting flogged on telly and didn't want to ever be one of those people that leave mid game , however on that day I become one of them.

I was so upset with the way the team was playing I left at half-time and was on a quiet train back home. I hope to never have to do this again.

One thing is for sure this derby is going to be a cracker!

Wishful thinking (Allan Stone):

My favourite Derby moment was when Pav crashed through 3 defenders to kick his derby record 10thgoal for the game and finish off a dominant Docker display in the 2nd Derby of 2015. (Note this may not have actually happened yet!).

Josh Carr was always a divisive figure in Western Derbies...

Like watching a Carr crash (Amy Stevenson):

It takes a lot to separate a man from his meat pie but that is just what Josh Carr managed to achieve in Round 18, 2007.

Carr performed the role of tagger for the Fremantle Dockers and soon had plastic bottles, stuffed potatoes, and even meat pies thrown in his direction. Security guards feared a ground invasion by West Coast supporters and extra police were sent in to protect the Fremantle bench.

Enraging the crowd further, Fremantle not only won the game 124-97 but Carr was awarded the Ross Glendinning Medal. As the sound of his acceptance speech was drowned out by the home crowd the camera captured the image of Carr looking into the crowd.

He was smiling to himself and all I remember thinking was that is the look of a man who knows he has done his job and done it well.
