Roosters backrower Aiden Guerra labelled the process a joke and Fairfax columnist Phil Gould expressed his anger via Twitter but Wayne Bennett believes it was a win for the game.

Asked on Friday his reaction on the trio of acquittals, Broncos coach Bennett suggested the NRL should be applauded.

"What I believe is that the system's working," he said.

"The match review committee charged some players and the judiciary themselves found them not to be guilty.

"I think that's a wonderful system.

"We should applaud it.

"It's not a closed shop, that's what we're saying. You've got to prove that the shoulder charge meets the criteria that it should have been charged under."

"I thought it was a great win for the game that we, as a game, can be brave enough to have a different point of view."

Promising a crackdown on shoulder charges after Kane Evans' hit on Bulldogs big man Sam Kasiano a fortnight ago, the NRL made the tackle technique an automatic suspension.

The new interpretation of the rule has been the topic of serious debate since then, with players criticising hefty suspensions and the latest round of charges all being fought successfully.

Bennett said he was not under any such ambiguity over the definition of a shoulder charge, which was banned ahead of the 2013 season.

I'm not confused," he said.

"If I'm not confused, I can't talk about anybody else.

"I know what a shoulder charge is and I'm not confused."

Bennett said Brisbane would be stupid to change their approach leading into the top-of-the-table clash.

"We don't just go into a game like this and go and change our whole world and do things we haven't done before, it's not going to work for us," he said.

A win would almost guarantee the Broncos a minor premiership but Bennett said that would just be a bonus.

"(At the start of the season) we wanted to be a top-four team, we thought that was a good place to start," he said.

"We achieved that with three games to go and for us now the finals is the next step.

"The main thing we don't want to be picking up is not playing well. We just want to be playing well and make sure we go into finals with some confidence."
