Fairfax Media revealed Nikorima was headed to Bondi Junction a fortnight ago and the three-year deal was confirmed on Tuesday.

More than half a dozen clubs were chasing the signature of the Australian Schoolboys star but the chance of replacing Cronulla-bound pivot James Maloney next year provided the best pathway towards an NRL berth.

The Roosters tabled a deal which could work out at bout a quarter of a million dollars per season if Nikorima can make the jump to first grade.

"Jayden is a wonderfully talented young man who can play in the halves, at hooker or fullback and we're pleased to have secured his services," said Roosters recruiter Peter O'Sullivan.

"Jayden possesses a brilliant running game and speed to bring balance to our squad and we look forward to watching him develop on and off the footy field in the coming years."

Hastings will get a chance to showcase his skills in coming weeks in the halves as a replacement for injured NSW No.7 Mitchell Pearce.

However, the pair will battle it out in the preseason for a permanent spot in the halves. The teenager who loses out could still get a regular first-grade spot, potentially at fullback or as a bench utility.

Nikorima won't play again this season after injuring his shoulder playing for Queensland in the NYC State of Origin encounter.

His older brother, 21-year-old Kodi, has pledged his allegiance to New Zealand and is a chance of replacing Shaun Johnson for the Kiwi tour of England.

Brisbane had hoped to keep them both but couldn't promise the same pathway to the top grade as the Roosters. It is a double win for the Chooks, who defeated the Broncos over the weekend to skip ahead in the race to the minor premiership.
