From September 1, The North West Star will move from publishing Monday to Friday to publishing three days a week, with new editions of the paper to be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
There will be no Monday edition next week, as the newspaper’s Camooweal Street newsroom led by acting editor Andrea Crothers and journalists Chris Burns, Bronwyn Wheatcroft and Tom Adam works to deliver vibrant editions with a new design packed with local news.
Ms Crothers said she was particularly excited about the Saturday edition - a first for the North West Star - which would include the eight-page racing guide, a bumper sport section, a property guide and a large Weekender section to provide readers with feature-length stories of substance and quality.
During the week, The North West Star will retain its popular sections, such as the four-page TV guide, while adding a local entertainment guide, more sport pages and locally generated features to serve both readers and local advertisers.
“But above all the core focus of this hard-working team at The North West Star will be local news, delivering the stories that matter to the people of Mount Isa and the broader North West,” Ms Crothers said.
“While we might be shifting to a tri-weekly, readers can still follow breaking news daily on our news website www.northweststar.com.au and follow us on Twitter or like our Facebook page.
“The North West Star has one of the highest levels of engagement from readers on social media and online of any newspaper in the country - another reason why we are determined to deliver the news to our audiences when and where they want it - either in print or on their mobile device.”
Ms Crothers said the changes were about equipping The North West Star for the modern media landscape, which would ultimately lead to building a more sustainable business, which celebrates 50 years of operation in Mount Isa next year.
“As The North West Star prepares to mark a magnificent half century in 2016, we are excited about the history we will be making next week,” she said.
“We look forward to providing more details about our upgraded, modern media service and getting feedback from the community about the revitalised The North West Star.”
