The AFL Players Association board, with Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich as chairman, has named a squad of 47 for supporters to vote on.

Each team is represented, with the Giants topping the count with six: midfielders Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel and Stephen Coniglio and forwards Devon Smith, Cam McCarthy and Jeremy Cameron.

While Treloar has dominated headlines by not yet agreeing to a contract extension, with rival clubs suggesting he is all but a lock to sign with Collingwood, the future of key forward James Stewart, still with a year to run on his contract, is also intriguing.

Stewart, 21, has played 11 matches this season, contributing 12 goals, and has 15 matches overall in three seasons. It's understood he will have his future clarified in the next fortnight, as is the case with several Giants.

Stewart's father, former Collingwood player Craig, unleashed on the Magpies earlier this year for waiting until a fortnight before James completed his VCE exams to tell him he wouldn't be taken as a father-son in the 2012 draft. The Giants swooped and took Stewart with pick 27.

Treloar has repeatedly said he wants to remain at the Giants but he has chosen to put off a decision on a new contract until the end of the year. The Giants also have salary-cap pressures, while they must cut their list by two, having begun with an expanded list as part of the expansion concessions.

That the Giants have a strong batch in the 22-and-under squad reinforces why they are expected to become an on-field power soon, although the loss of Treloar could hurt.

The Magpies may have missed the finals but the optimism emanating from the club through their emerging young talent was shown in five players being nominated in the squad.

They are defenders Tom Langdon and Marley Williams, midfielders Jack Crisp and Taylor Adams and ruckman Brodie Grundy.

Carlton and Essendon have had years they would prefer to forget but, at least, have two nominations apiece. Midfielder Patrick Cripps, a favourite for the Rising Star award, and Sam Docherty are likely to represent the Blues in the final 22, while the Bombers have forwards Joe Daniher and Zach Merrett.

The AFLPA is running the poll on its website, with the final team to be revealed at next month's MVP awards night.
