The minor premiers clinched their second shield of the year in emphatic fashion winning 17.9 111 – 8.7 55 with spearhead forward Brodie Deverell slotting a game-high of seven goals at Legend Oval.
The heroics of Deverell were awarded at the conclusion of the game with the Tigers leading goal kicker presented with the Paul White medallion for the best player of the grand final.
“We set ourselves a pretty big target at the start of the year to go back-to-back,” Deverell said.
“We stuck with it all year but we didn’t really talk about it too much until this week.”
Deverell was unstoppable in front of goal lifting the competition front-runners off to a wonderful start with three goals to his name by quarter time.
The first of Deverell’s seven-goal haul resulted off a costly error in the Young Guns backline with the Tigers front man intercepting and snapping the ball expertly between the middle posts.
The Northern Territory-based side struggled to man up in defence which gave them all sorts of problems creating clean cut chances for Cargill medallist Garrick Ray and Jameson Billy up front.
Nathaniel Long finally gave the hundreds of supporters of Young Guns something to cheer about when he kicked the opening goal for his side out of ball scraps.
But the Tigers went back on the accelerator with two more goals to Deverell accompanied by single goals to Greg Warren and Nick Aberline.
Lake Nash could only settle for one second quarter goal from Ryan Teague after Aberline gave away a clumsy 50 metre free kick.
A lacklustre-looking Young Guns side could not keep up with its rival’s high level of intensity and physicality on ball.
Coach Craig Brice said his second title in as many years was a great way to finish his coaching career with Tigers.
“To my boys, we spoke about the effort, the discipline, and dedication and that’s what happened guys,” Brice said.
