WHEN I first landed in Mount Isa a number of weeks ago, I was confronted with the stark reality of a reader’s hunger for a passionately-driven, content-heavy, regional paper.

Getting into a taxi at the airport, I asked the driver to take me to the office of The North West Star.
The driver replied, in all seriousness, “Are you here to take it or save it?”
Well, let me alleviate any concern.
The North West Star is here to stay.
In fact, the future is bright. Very bright.
Today, September 1, marks a milestone in the The North West Star’s 49-year history.
It marks a significant change in the way we deliver the stories to our community.
It actually means we will have more time to be out and about covering events and acting as strong advocates for the North West.
We won’t just be involved in our community, we’ll be an even stronger part of it.
The Star will be a voice for the region, responding to the issues that matter most and driving discussion.
The core focus of this hard-working team at The North West Star is local news.
The North West Star is fortunate to have one of the highest levels of engagement from readers on social media and online of any regional newspaper in the country.
This is another reason why we are determined to deliver the news to our audiences when and where they want it - either in print or on their mobile device.
So whether you’re scanning the news feed on your iPhone in the morning, or reading your iPad of an evening, we’re equipped to serve up the latest content just the way you like it.
This is another reason why we were so passionate about introducing a Saturday paper.
We understand that we have different readers, with unique needs.
Without the community, the The North West Star would not exist, irrespective of how it looked or how we engaged with our readers.
We may be doing things a bit differently now, but The North West Star is here to stay.
For this is our home, from where we can share your stories.
As always, we’d love to hear your feedback on the new-look of The North West Star.
