Some stories you simply cannot help but be drawn to – and the plight of sublimely talented yet perennially injured Cat Daniel Menzel is one of them. Playing in his first AFL game since 2011, Menzel produced a brilliant display in a losing side. He was lively in the forward half and finished with four goals, 20 disposals and an impressive 93 points. While the key for him will be to remain injury-free and make his mark in 2016, his ability to hit the scoreboard will make him a potential X-factor for Ultimate Footy coaches.

Menzel was surprisingly effective in his return, but his skipper produced an uncharacteristically poor performance. Joel Selwood has mirrored Geelong's inconsistency this year, showing glimpses of his supreme talent (five scores over 115) along with a number of shockers (six scores below 80), and this game was undoubtedly the latter. He was largely ineffective with only 19 touches, three tackles and 57 points – all while giving away four free kicks. It was a bad time to have an off week for fantasy owners, with his poor performance undoubtedly contributing to a number of losses.

Ridiculous

After losing to Geelong only three weeks ago, the Swans have responded in brutal fashion, thumping the Giants by 15 goals last week and then demolishing the Saints by nearly 100 points this week. It is the perfect time for Sydney and their stable of stars to be hitting their straps for finals for both AFL and Ultimate Footy. A total of seven players surpassed the 100-point mark, including some huge scores from the usual culprits: Tom Mitchell (142 points), Dan Hannebery (133), Josh Kennedy (130) and Kieren Jack (125).

Regrettable

After flying high for so long, it seemed inevitable that the Eagles would eventually stumble. They were comprehensively beaten by the Crows, and eight goals to zero in the first quarter effectively settled the result at the outset. Many of West Coast's key players struggled in the loss, which would have caused serious headaches across the fantasy world. Josh Kennedy was completely blanketed with only one goal and 43 points, and a number of his teammates also failed to make much of an impact: Gaff (62 points), LeCras (64), Priddis (70) and Darling (71) among them.
