Carrazzo will finish his career on 194 games after 14 seasons in the AFL – 12 of which were spent with the Blues.

The 31-year-old was originally picked up by Geelong in the 2002 rookie draft and after failing to play a game for the Cats, he was recruited by Carlton in the 2004 rookie draft and proceeded to be a mainstay in the Blues' line-up for more than a decade.

Carrazzo carved out a fruitful career at Princes Park, which was highlighted by a best-and-fairest in 2007, and for a period was regarded as one of the game's best taggers.

Carlton football manager Andrew McKay paid tribute to Carrazzo.

"Andrew is one of those players you know would bleed blue – he put his heart and soul into everything he did at this football club and we have been privileged to have him as part of our team," McKay said.

"He has always shown tremendous leadership both on and off the field, especially as a mentor to our younger players.

"On behalf of everyone at Carlton I would like to thank Andrew for his contribution and wish him and his family every success in the future."

Carrazzo is believed to be entertaining the idea of following former players Jordan Bannister and Leigh Fisher into the AFL's umpiring ranks.
