Ms Linda Ford, the Director of Social Work at the North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS), will commence the International Enhancement of Leadership Program in October, 2015.
Ms Ford is undaunted by the scale of the Mount Sinai Hospital which boasts approximately 350 social workers, but expects to be energised by the differences in practice.
“This is a trip of a lifetime and amazing professional highlight for me,” Ms Ford said.
“I cannot wait to meet with the world’s best in my field and will definitely share some of my experiences during my 20 years practice in the North West.
“I am excited to see the cutting edge of advanced clinical practice, political agendas and socio-economic development at an international level!”
After an extensive application and interview process, Ms Ford was one of just seven social workers offered the eight week placement this year at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
“My application included letters of support and examples of my work into the barriers of culturally competent communication,” Ms Ford said.
“I also had to provide examples of what I would like to research and outline what I hope to bring back to my workplace if I was successful.”
Chief Executive of the North West HHS, Mrs Sue Belsham, congratulated Ms Ford on her successful application.
Mrs Belsham said she was looking forward to sharing her learnings during her placement on her safe return.
“It is absolutely fantastic that Ms Ford is pursuing this international opportunity to exchange clinical ideas and expertise,” Mrs Belsham said.
“I am certain Ms Ford will showcase her practice and the value we place on our patients, our local culture and our part of the world whilst she is there.
“Whilst we hope our staff enjoy the unique training and opportunities available to them in the North West, it is always wonderful to hear them choosing to share their experiences with others.
Ms Ford will be recording her experiences on a blog, so she can draw on her learning to lecture other social workers, students and team members.
