Taylor lodged a writ on Tuesday, alleging the breaches include "misleading or deceiving" the public over the integrity of the joint investigation in 2013 conducted by the AFL and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority, the AFL's responsibilities for player health and safety and the AFL's corporate values.  
"We rightly expect high standards of corporate conduct in this country. It is important they are upheld. It's even more important in the case of large institutions like the AFL," Taylor told Fairfax Media.

"The public is entitled to know what the AFL really stands for and the truth about many of the claims by the AFL. The AFL would not have made many of its claims unless it considered them important. It's important the public know the reality behind the AFL's public statements."

AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and chief executive Gillon McLachlan have been named as defendants in the 32-page writ.

AFL spokesman Patrick Keane confirmed the league was aware of the writ.

Taylor has worked with Arnold Bloch Leibler in Melbourne and Latham and Watkins in London.

The writ is broken down into such categories as "The McLachlan disclosures", "The Demetriou disclosures", in reference to former AFL chief Andrew Demetriou, "the self-report", in reference to Essendon's controversial self-reporting to ASADA and the AFL and "the peptides warning", in reference to former coach James Hird's meeting with AFL integrity chief Brett Clothier.

The writ also questions why the Bombers were banned from the 2013 finals. The AFL had taken this action over governance failures.

Taylor is also seeking answers over "player health and safety" issues and questions the "AFL's values" in another section.

Hird twice challenged the legality of the joint investigation in the Federal Court but failed on each occasion.

The writ also alleges AFL figures knew the Bombers were being investigated by the Australian Crime Commission before the club self-reported in February 2013.

Taylor also alleges the Bombers only requested the AFL and ASADA conduct a joint investigation after being alerted to the ACC probe.

The AFL has yet to release its own internal review into how it handled the saga as the case, now involving an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency, has yet to be finalised.

The AFL anti-doping tribunal in March found it was not comfortably satisfied that the 34 Essendon players at the centre of the scandal were administered the banned drug, thymosin beta-4, prompting WADA to appeal.

WADA has also launched an appeal against the tribunal's findings on Stephen Dank, the architect of the supplements program.

Taylor said he was not an Essendon member but had met with the club in 2013 and called for an extraordinary general meeting. He had wanted the Bombers to appoint counsel to investigate whether there had been "wrongdoing" by the AFL.

He has established a website and is hoping to secure public donations to help fight his case.
