It's believed there are offers from rival clubs for Kreuzer up to $600,000 a season, possibly over three years - the type of money that will need to be shelled out to lure him away from Princes Park as a restricted free agent.

Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs have shown interest, while Greater Western Sydney are searching for a second ruckman and have again been linked to the former No.1 pick, after having had their massive offer rejected when they entered the competition. Richmond has also been linked but the Tigers have denied interest.

It's believed the Blues have offered Kreuzer between $400,000 and $450,000 a season, with possible incentives. Industry figures believe this is a fair offer for a man who has a history of foot problems and has played at least 20 matches in a season only once since 2009.

There was speculation on Monday the Blues had withdrawn their contract offer but that was not the case. The Blues have said they want Kreuzer to remain but understand it's his prerogative to listen to offers as a free agent.

Kreuzer finished this campaign off strongly, having returned from injury for his first match of the season in round 10. However, his previous match to that point was in round one last year when he was sidelined because of a foot problem.

The rebuilding Blues understand Kreuzer is a fan favourite but must also weigh up the compensation they could receive should Kreuzer accept a lucrative offer elsewhere.

List manager Steve Silvagni is expected to officially ask the AFL for an indication of what the Blues could receive. However, in line with previous free agent moves, the Blues could receive pick No.2 pick as compensation, meaning they would have the coveted top two picks in the national draft.

This could allow the Blues to get their hands on under-18 stars, key forward Josh Schache from the Murray Bushrangers, and key defender Jacob Weitering from the Dandenong Stingrays.

The risk for rival clubs is whether Kreuzer, 26, can hold up physically for the duration of the contract.

The off-field change at the rebuilding club has continued with assistant coach Dean Laidley and high-performance manager David Buttifant leaving.

"I have enjoyed the last two seasons at Carlton, especially working closely with the playing group. The club now has the foundations and planning in place and I know they will continue to build towards success in the coming years," Laidley said.

"The time is right for me to find my next challenge."

Buttifant will not be directly replaced, with the fitness and conditioning area to have a revised reporting structure under new coach Brendon Bolton.

John Barker, given the caretaker role after Malthouse left in May, will decide after a week on holiday with his family whether he wants to remain and work as an assistant to Bolton.

Fellow assistants Robert Wiley and Brad Green are also off contract.
