Charlie Dixon might be heading out the door but Tom Lynch proved himself as Gold Coast's most valuable forward, claiming his first club champion award on Friday.

Gold Coast vice-captain Lynch was one of the few positives in a horrendous year for the Suns, plagued by injuries and off-field dramas.

The Suns' leading goal kicker for the second year in a row with 43 goals, Lynch proved himself the club's most valuable key forward.

Lynch narrowly beat second-year defender Kade Kolodjashnij by two votes in the main award, after the latter's breakout season.

Key defender Steven May finished third after a promising back end to the year, while Gold Coast's two rising star nominees Touk Miller and Adam Saad featured among the top 10 in thier debut seasons.

Lynch is just the third player to win the award that Gary Ablett had a monopoly on until injury interrupted seasons in 2014 when David Swallow won and 2015.

Ablett still managed to finish in the top 10 despite playing just six games this season.

Lynch was also voted the players' player, while ruckman Tom Nicholls picked up the community award and delisted rookie Tyrone Downie was named NEAFL player of the year.

Kolodjashnij was named the Suns' most improved player while retiring midfielder Andrew Raines picked up the most professional player award.​

Suns football boss Marcus Ashcroft used the night to announce the re-signing of key defender Rory Thompson.

The departing Charlie Dixon, who has requested a trade to Port Adelaide last week, attended the evening.

Harley Bennell, whom the Suns will seek to trade after another disciplinary breach, was a notable absence.
