Jack Bird's stint at Cronulla could have been the shortest in the club's 48-year history. Unsettled and having doubts about his switch from St George Illawarra, Bird needed to get away. Bird – who still lives in Wollongong - wanted time off training as he pondered a move back to his junior club. Coach Shane Flanagan obliged giving Bird a week off, unsure if he would see his star recruit again.
