Jarryd Hayne has joined the stable alongside some of the most recognisable and highest-paid athletes after landing his first lucrative sponsorship deal with sporting apparel giants Under Armour.

The deal has put Hayne in illustrious company alongside US golf sensation Jordan Spieth and NBA MVP Steph Curry as part of the group's ambassadors.

To gain an appreciation of the company Hayne finds himself in, the championship-winning Curry reportedly has a $US4 million ($5.64 million) a year deal with the same firm.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is also aligned with Under Armour, who contribute a large portion of the $US7 million in annual endorsement income he reportedly earns.

Under Armour also paid English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur more than $US80 million in 2012 as part of a five-year deal to be the club's kit sponsor, while world No.3 tennis superstar Andy Murray is in the second year of a $US23 million deal with the sportswear giants.

Also on their books is Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who has a seven-year $US215 million contract with the Major League Baseball franchise that opened the season in Sydney last year.

​While the details of Spieth's contract with Under Armour are unknown, the 22-year-old has racked up close to $US10 million in prizemoney alone in a breakthrough year for the two-time major champion.

Hayne appeared on the Today Show on Monday morning to officially announce his new sponsorship deal after it was revealed online by Fairfax Media.

"This happened over the course of a couple of months, going back and forth, and it was great to get the deal done," Hayne said. "It's a company that's all about the underdogs and it's something that I love. The presentation was great that I had seen many months ago and there's some great guys on board, Patty Mills and Steph Curry and guys like that that I definitely look up to and have taken America by storm."

Hayne has become a crowd favourite at the San Francisco 49ers since his breakthrough performances during the pre-season.

The 49ers are now cashing in on Hayne's success, selling an unprecedented number of jerseys for an undrafted rookie and gaining a new fan base in Australia.

However 49ers general manager Trent Baalke told Fairfax Media Hayne wasn't brought to the club as a publicity stunt..

"The bottom line is: does he help you win games?" Baalke told Fairfax Media.

"If we didn't feel he could help us win football games ... to sell a few jerseys across the season isn't the objective. Obviously now the benefit of having a guy like Jarryd on the team is not only what he can do for you on the field but certainly there's a cross-over benefit to expose our franchise and our organisation, as well as the entire NFL."

Patty Mills, fellow Australian and NBA player with the San Antonio Spurs, is also associated with Under Armour, taking to Twitter on Monday morning to congratulate Hayne on the deal.

"This partnership was a natural fit for me," Hayne said. "Under Armour is a powerful global brand with a deep history in American football ... I look forward to representing Under Armour in the next chapter of my journey."
