Watts was dropped ahead of Melbourne's final-round win over Greater Western Sydney, and Roos told the media at the time not to read too much into his non-selection.
However the conversation surrounding the 24-year-old took a turn on Monday night when Roos was asked directly whether Watts would be a Melbourne player in 2016, and the coach chose to answer indirectly.
"We've got to make our list better. And that's not designed to scare Jack Watts or anyone on the list," Roos said on Fox Footy's AFL360.
"That's just the way things sit," he said.
"I haven't had any specific conversations with Jack."
It's understood Melbourne will make key decisions on their list in the next few days.
A follow-up question was put to Roos about whether he had made up his mind on Watts for next year.
He replied: "No, not at all".
"I can't guarantee any Melbourne player [will be at the club next year]," he said.
