Boyd Cordner's move to the middle of the field to stiffen up the Roosters forward pack provided dividends with Cordner producing arguably his best performance of the season in the Roosters' 38-12 win against the Bulldogs on Friday night.

Cordner has spent the bulk of the season camped on the Roosters' left edge, forming a lethal combination with Michael Jennings and Daniel Tupou but was moved to the middle of the field to combat Canterbury's big forward pack. And the switch worked a treat with Cordner's 136 running metres the most of any Roosters forward on Friday night. Mitchell Aubusson replaced Cordner on the edge with Sio Siua Taukeiaho on the interchange bench.

"I've played there a few times now this year," Cordner said. "I have really enjoyed my time there. Wherever the team needs me I'm happy to go there. It was really pleasing to get the win."

The move to the middle came after the Storm overpowered the Roosters in the opening week of the finals and as the Roosters continue to find ways to replace the injured Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. Cordner credited the team's 12-game winning streak with his form rise as he looked to build on his first full Origin series.

"I've found my form has been pretty consistent all year," Cordner said. "Going on that big winning streak [your form] gets highlighted more when you're winning games than when you're losing. I've tried to stay pretty consistent and do what's best for the team. It's a really good feeling and everyone is on the same page.

"I'm happy with where my footy is at. Hopefully we can go to Brisbane and get a win."

The Roosters were given a harsh reality check in their opening finals loss to the Storm. Cordner said the lessons from that defeat helped them regroup to beat the Bulldogs.

"We learnt a lot," Cordner said. "It was nowhere near our best footy. We tightened it right up there in the middle with our defence. Our attack was a lot better.

"A bit scrappy at times throughout the game but the back end of the game was pretty good and pleasing with how we finished off. There were a lot of positives to take out of it."

After withstanding a heated opening exchange, the Roosters were able to run away with the game despite taking a four-point half-time lead against the Bulldogs. Cordner said his side anticipated an intense start.

"We knew they were going to come out firing being semi-final footy and especially with their forward pack," Cordner said. "We knew we had to get into a fight and an arm wrestle.

"We knew we couldn't go away from our game plan because we knew if we stuck at it long enough it would work and it did in the end. We gained a bit of momentum back that we lost after last week's game. The challenge is to keep building on it. The [Broncos] have been up there [as the toughest team this year]."
