The Cowboys have launched their own charter flight, costing $1045 return from Townsville, to give the fans an opportunity to potentially witness the club win its first competition. The offer is open to the club's members chief executive Greg Tonner said.

"We are in a final and it's fantastic," Tonner said. "We are challenged by distance. The drive is two or three days so we have to fly.

"From the north it's been hard. It has taken us two to three days to get organised for members. The last costs of flights have gone up exponentially which has been horrifying for the community of the north.

"We have had a team working around the clock for three days to get it out. I would like to think we will be in the finals every year and we will be organised. The fans have been fantastic as usual in working with us. Hopefully we will meet the demand."

Fans flocked to mingle with the grand finalists for the first time since they qualified for the premiership decider. Queues ran for about four kilometres to watch the players undergo a light training session before they signed autographs.

Co-captain Johnathan Thurston was among a host of players including Gavin Cooper and Ben Hannant who did not train but were on hand at 1300 Smiles Stadium. The session was as light as a training hit out could be.

Tonner said the turnout was "incredible".

"To see our car park full on a Tuesday afternoon is beautiful," he said. "Kids and everyone involved in that beautiful North Queensland casual atmosphere, it is special."

While some Cowboys fans gulped at the prospect of the cost of four-figure airline tickets, the Gourley family bought their airfares for $218 return in July in anticipation of the Cowboys reaching the grand final.

Tanja, husband Matt and children Dylan, eight, and Jade, five, will be on hand at ANZ Stadium to cheer on their side.

"It's a huge difference," Mrs Gourley said. "We had a lot of faith in them but either way we were still going to go to the game.

"Most of the people we know have done the same thing and got in early. A few people we know got their tickets fine but are struggling with [the cost] of the airfares. We looked online and it was $1100 per person which is a huge difference.

"I would love to see them win especially for JT [Thurston]."

Less than 2000 tickets remain for the grand final and officials expect to announce a sell-out within 24 hours. Up to 30,000 fans are travelling from Queensland for the match and ticket sales suggest that 60 per cent of those will be supporting the Cowboys.

Jenny Barnett queued for about two hours to be the first in line at the club's open training session. The cost of airfares means she will watch the game from the Cowboys' leagues club.

"We are very excited," Ms Barnett said. "It's massive for the area."
