Silvagni is expected to become a third-generation Blue at this year's draft, provided the club matches any bid placed for him by another club.

The 17-year-old is new to the under-18 system this year, but made an impression kicking six goals for Vic Metro against Western Australia in a national championships game.

Silvagni was sidelined by a shoulder injury not long later, and is unable to test at this week's combine as he continues his recovery from reconstructive surgery.

He said he had never imagined anything but playing football, and had always wanted to follow his grandfather Serge and father Stephen, now the club's list manager, to the Blues.

"I think it's just sort of been instilled since birth in me. I've always wanted to play footy, especially at Carlton," said Silvagni.

"Dad played there, my grandfather played there, so it's never really crossed my mind that I'd be playing any other sport or doing anything else. I've always wanted to play footy.

"It's been a dream of mine since I can remember."

Silvagni is one of two potential Carlton father-son picks attending this week's combine, along with small defender Bailey Rice.

Rice could also nominate as a St Kilda selection, with his father Dean having passed the 100-game mark at both clubs.

Silvagni said he had never felt any pressure to live up to his father's achievements, wanted to do things his own way and hadn't been given any guarantees that Carlton would take him on.

"I understand that it's a really difficult process now with the new bidding system and the value being placed on picks," he said.

"It's really hard to guarantee any academy player or father-son player that spot anymore, just because the system's changed so much.

"Whatever happens will happen, but ultimately I'd love to end up at Carlton."
