And, given the Hawks have bagged the last three flags, you couldn't blame them.

Fremantle is beefing up its coaching staff by adding Hawks' ruckman David Hale, it was announced on Friday.

Also heading west is two-time Hawks premiership defender, Brent Guerra, who for the last two years had a part-time coaching role with Hawthorn.

And even former North Melbourne player Anthony Rock, who is also joining the coaching group in 2016, has a Hawthorn connection after spending two years at club from 1999-2001.

Dockers' general manager of football operations, Chris Bond, said the trio brought a wealth of experience to the club.

"David, Brent and Anthony each have key football and coaching qualities, and will be valuable additions to our club," he said.

"They have decades of experience at the game's most elite level and we look forward to them joining our coaching team and the valuable input they will have at the club."

Hale, 31, said he was "excited" to tackle a coaching role after 237 AFL games with the Hawks and North Melbourne.

"Fremantle have a very talented list and experienced coaching group which I'm looking forward to being part of," he said.

Guerra, who played 255 games with the Hawks, Port Adelaide and St Kilda said he was looking forward to working alongside coach Ross Lyon.

And Rock, 45, who was a member of the Roos' 1996 premiership team, was looking forward to "the next chapter in his coaching career".

"I enjoy watching the young players develop and can't wait to join Fremantle," he said.

The trio will replace former assistant coaches Simon Lloyd and Brett Kirk who departed the club after this year's finals series.
