The committee's dream of producing a professional print quality recipe book was now a reality that showcases the exceptional LSODE school community and the outback environments where they live.
Tourism committee president Angie Bettridge said the compilation and publication of the book had been a major undertaking for the volunteer group who oversee the running of LSODE's tourism business.
"It has been a long and challenging journey but worth the effort," Mrs Bettridge said.
"The hard cover format and stunning photography, much of it contributed by school families, reflects the drive of the committee to produce a high quality publication that promotes our lifestyle and school.
"The recipes have come from the outback kitchens of families who not only teach their children via 'School of the Air' but who also run busy grazing properties and households.
"The committee has dedicated significant time and effort to see the book become a reality."
Mrs Bettridge said that funds generated by the sale of the cookbook will go back to the school and be used to support student camps, upgrading of facilities and the purchase of resources.
"Students will have the financial backing to travel to places such as the Queensland coast and Snowy Mountains that are not easily accessed by families living in remote areas.
"Funds will also be used to support minischools and clusters which provide the chance for students to mix with their teachers and peers, as well as to upgrade existing facilities and provide resources for the school library."
The book was launched by Matt Bron from Tourism Queensland at the Longreach School of Distance Education, Sir James Walker Drive, Longreach.
n Books will be available in the LSODE Tourism Room and via mail order by contacting tours1@eq.edu.au.
