Former Canberra stars Terry Campese and Joel Monaghan believe more teams should follow the Raiders' lead by snaring young English players in Super League, and endorsed Elliott Whitehead as the next "pom" to conquer the NRL.

Hull KR skipper Campese branded former Catalans Dragon Whitehead, who has signed with Canberra for two years, as "one of the best attacking second rowers I've played against in a while".
The Raiders struck Super League gold last season with Sia Soliola, who won their player of the year, and hooker Josh Hodgson.
Hodgson and Whitehead were both picked for England's current Test series with New Zealand, and Whitehead's Catalans teammate Jeff Lima will also bolster Canberra's pack next year.
The influx of Englishmen into the NRL has gradually increased after the success of the Burgess brothers, Canterbury skipper James Graham, St George Illawarra playmaker Gareth Widdop and fellow Dragon Mike Cooper.
"The way the salary cap is going in the NRL there's a lot of money to spend and the English kids are pretty much untouched," Campese said.
"Playing over there this year I thought there was a lot of young talent that would be useful in the NRL and I reckon clubs here in the next few years will get those kids a bit earlier."
Monaghan, who recently signed with Castleford after five years with Warrington, agrees more clubs will be rewarded if they take a punt on British talent.
"With the English players I think it's a bit untapped," Monaghan said.
"Every British player who has come down [to NRL] has really impressed and I think that's probably a move they'll start doing, looking at the younger players in England and getting them down here as quick as they can."
Campese has no doubt Whitehead will emulate Hodgson and adapt easily to the NRL.
"I reckon he's one of the best attacking second rowers I've played against in a while," Campese said.
"If he can bring that and adapt to the NRL, I think he'll be a great buy for the club.
"You've got Papa [Josh Papalii] and Sia [as their starting back rowers]. It's a headache you like to have but, he'll definitely be there somewhere in the 17.
"We [Hull KR] had to do a lot of homework on him because he has a bit of everything.
"He does chip kicks and grubbers, catches high balls and has a dangerous offload."
Monaghan feels the 26-year-old's creativity will fit in well in a Raiders side who proved themselves as one of the NRL's best attacking teams this year.
"He's a real good player, there was a lot of clubs who were after him over there," Monaghan said.
"He has a knack of finding the try line, is good on cross kicks and I reckon it's a great buy."
Monaghan was in Canberra on Friday for Campese's annual charity golf day, which raises money for his foundation.
More than 30 golf professionals, including Peter O'Malley, took part.
"After today we'll see how much money we raise and where it's best used before I go back to England," Campese said.
"There are a lot of people out there who need help and that's what today's about."
