Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan confirmed there were "some discussions" about signing Farah from Wests Tigers after Fairfax Media broke news of the Tricolours' attempts to squeeze him under the salary cap.  Meanwhile, the South Sydney board met to make a determination on Walker and Aaron Gray on Tuesday following an incident in which the two players overdosed on prescription medications. However, directors requested more information before deciding on how to proceed.

Most clubs have been back at training for more than a fortnight, but it remains unclear where Farah and Walker will play next season. Farah is expected to join Tigers teammates at a training camp at Port Stephens on the north coast from Wednesday, just days after requesting a release from the final two years of his contract. The joint-venture outfit has made it clear that requests from Farah's management for a full payout won't be granted, with a settlement to be negotiated before any transfer can occur. Should the parties fail to agree to terms, Farah is expected to stay put.

The Roosters were poised to accommodate Farah if they could get him at a bargain price, contingent on the Tigers paying almost all of his freight. However, the Tigers expect suitors to chip in a reasonable amount and it's unlikely the NRL would register a new contract unless it went some way towards reflecting the NSW hooker's market value.

"There were some discussions," Canavan confirmed. "But there has not been dialogue for the past two days.

"I'm unable to shed any more light because there is no recent information."

Any decisions on Walker's future will also affect two clubs. Manly is keen to sign Walker for 2016, as new coach Trent Barrett is said to view him as the man to replace Parramatta recruit Kieran Foran at five-eighth. While the Rabbitohs granted permission for the Australian three-quarter to speak with other clubs, a release was not granted.

"The findings were tabled today at the SSFC Board Meeting," South Sydney chief executive John Lee said of the Walker-Gray matters.

"The Board has requested further information and will consider its final position with regard to the players once that information has been provided."

Several other NRL big names remain in limbo. James Roberts has delayed talks with the Gold Coast for personal reasons following a forgery scandal that could result in his Titans contract becoming null and void. And Manly's Peta Hiku, fresh from representing the Kiwis during their tour to England, is weighing up his future after Manly granted him permission to explore his options. Both centres could be targets for Parramatta, who are embroiled in a legal battle with Will Hopoate, should they become free agents.
