RAIN was forecast for Mount Isa late this week but despite clouds brewing and humidity rising, few would dare assume it would fall until the first crack of thunder was heard on Wednesday afternoon.

It poured from 3.40pm for approximately 20 minutes.
Lightning stopped a petrol station’s bowsers from operating, according to an attendant.
Graham Peden was at the Mount Isa lookout when the rain broke, and he had a good overview of the city.
“There was carnage,” he said, as the rain began to die down.
“There was a lot of roof sheets blowing everywhere.”
Happy Valley resident Kylie Vonhoff’s patio roof collapsed during the storm.
“There’s not many pieces left of it,” she said.
“It was very quick, the wind just came through.”
Queensland Ambulance Service had no significant incidents reported during the storm.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s website has not updated the amount of rain that Mount Isa received, and a local spokesman was sought for comment.
At 2.40pm the Bureau issued a warning that severe thunderstorms could affect Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Camooweal, Duchess Hotel, Selwyn and McKinlay Roadhouse.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 5:40 pm.
