The carnivale at the Mount Isa Civic Centre showcased about 200 dancers aged mostly from age four to 18, together with a few adults.
Eight dance teachers were involved in putting together the production.
The performance showcased jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary dancing and tap.
The show was based on the movie Rio 2 about Blu, a blue macaw, his wife Jewell and their three kids who travel from Rio de Janeiro to the Amazon jungle to look for other blue macaws.
In addition to the interactions between the birds, they discover a group of loggers who are chopping down trees and destroying the jungle on the edge of the macaw colony.
The birds plot to save the jungle by chasing the loggers away.
The dance school’s vice-principal Peta Wirth said the dancers also did some acting and mimed to scenes from the movie.
“The show was very vibrant and colourful to watch,” she said.
Ms Wirth said the students had put an enormous amount of work into the concert.
“Many of them performed in two or more dances,” she said.
As a result they had spent a lot of time over the last few months rehearsing.
Ms Wirth said assistance had come from parents who had made many props and helped to organise costumes.
The dancers had been rehearsing every Saturday and during their dance classes in the week.
In addition, they attended four rehearsals in the Civic Centre, including two dress rehearsals, ahead of performances on Friday and Saturday.
Amongst the performers was Shayla Luparia who has a full scholarship to attend a dance school on the Gold Coast next year.
Another two senior dancers, Melissa Wirth and Emma Long will be leaving for Brisbane next year.
The dance school will have a break in classes before sign on for 2016 on January 23.
