This year, there is always the option of a gift voucher that allows the recipient to choose among a list of local businesses.
It’s the Buy Local scheme that Commerce North West has created in the lead-up to Christmas to inject economic confidence.
And as the name suggests it’s also to keep money in the local community, the chamber’s manager Sue Wicks said.
She said more than 20 businesses agreed to sign up to the scheme on Friday, the first day the scheme was formally organised.
Since then the chamber has sold over $6000 worth of gift cards.
By the end of the weekend several more businesses had agreed to sign on.
The types of gifts recipients can pick out for themselves includes books, tools, holiday travel, catering, and a locksmith.
Ms Wicks was seeking more businesses to be involved, and it was not exclusive to Commerce North West members.
“The more businesses who participate, the more robust the program will be,” she said.
Airside Logistics owner Gary Murray said he ordered 50 cards for staff Christmas presents.
“It’s a Christmas bonus for staff as a small thank you from the owners,” Mr Murray said.
“It’s just to say thanks for the year.
“It’s been a tough year so it’s a small token of appreciation for their help.”
Cards can be bought from Commerce North West in West Street. They will be available to the public from December 10.
