Lucky Luke – Dargan’s hip hop alter-ego – said a lot of factors came into play when creating the album.
“The album circulates around negativity of social media and stereotypes,” Luke said.
“I promote unity, education and understanding through breaking down stereotypes.
This is the artist’s second album after releasing his debut album ‘WhichWay’ in late March.
“My new album ‘PlayinDaBlkCard’ was inspired by the feedback from my first album.
“I received 99 per cent positive feedback from listeners, but it was the one per cent that I listened to.
“This included people saying my songs were only popular because I was an Aboriginal man talking about Aboriginal issues and to keep playing the black card.”
Luke had a lot of success with his debut album being nominated for the ‘New Talent’ award at the National Indigenous Music Awards, making the top 10 political albums, ranking in the top 150 hit list on Triple J for seven months and touring Western Australia.
Luke hopes his second album will be just as successful. ‘PlayinDaBlkCard’ will be released on December 16.
