Judging from Currie’s work it appears he is quite influenced by New Zealand cartoonist Murray Ball – known for Footrot Flats.
He always captures the main themes in the newspaper, which often means his cartoons are tongue-in-cheek remarks over local political decisions.
The person Currie seems to mostly take the piss out of is Mt Isa mayor Tony McGrady. Five of 10 of Currie’s favourite cartoons have the Mount Isa Mayor in them.
Currie used to submit his cartoons in black and white, but adapted when The North West changed so that all pages were in colour.
Currie has submitted his best in no particular order, which were then ranked by editorial.
