It is almost an infamy among Alfred Hitchcock aficionados that the bossy director once intended to give us the shower scene from Psycho without any music. Things hadn't been going well with the film, Hitchcock was finding it a bit dull, and he was even considering editing it down to an hour-long TV show. As composer Bernard Herrmann​ once recalled, he just wanted to "get rid of it".
