After meeting with Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrective Services Bill Byrne in Mount Isa last week, Cr McGrady believed support for the proposal would be forthcoming.
“Mr Byrne was impressed with the proposal, and I believe he could certainly see the many great benefits of this facility being in Mount Isa,” Cr McGrady said.
“There is a need for an additional corrective services facility in Queensland, and I think a number of people are in agreeance that the North West is perfectly placed to meet this need.”
Cr McGrady has previously met with Keith Hamburger, former Queensland Corrective Services boss, now running Knowledge Consulting, and Indigenous community leader and Chair of Murri Watch Sam Watson, who both showed strong support for the proposal.
“There would be jobs offered to people of all cultural backgrounds and the flow-on effects of the services needed for the facility would mean a great deal of opportunity for the Mount Isa business.”
