The multimillion-dollar deal involving Sydney Swans star Lance Franklin proved leading AFL player agent Liam Pickering did nothing wrong when he quit one company to set up his own business, a court has been told.

Barrister Michael Osborne, QC, for Pickering, told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that Franklin had wanted nothing to do with the player agent's former business partner, Jason Sourasis.

Mr Osborne said Franklin had had a falling with Sourasis, owner of Strategic Management Australia AFL (SMAFL), and did not want to re-sign with him.

Barrister David Denton, QC, representing Sourasis, had earlier told Justice Michael Sifris during the bitter two-week civil trial that one of the key issues at the heart of Sourasis' lawsuit against Pickering was the reported $10 million, nine-year contract Franklin signed with Sydney in late 2013.

The barrister said Pickering was working for SMAFL representing Franklin during the contract negotiations when he signed to play for the Swans until 2022 but SMAFL had received nothing by way of commissions.

Mr Denton claimed Pickering deliberately waited until May 6, 2014, before getting Franklin to sign a player representation agreement with his new agency, cutting SMAFL out of the Swans deal.

In final submissions to Justice Sifris on Wednesday, Mr Osborne said there was no evidence of a conspiracy between Pickering and another AFL player agent, James Pitcher, to convince players such as Franklin to leave SMAFL and sign with their new agency.

Mr Osborne said both men had provided services for the entirety of their employment contract with SMAFL which had generated substantial income for the company before they left.

Sourasis is suing Pickering and Pitcher for damages over alleged lost commissions and endorsement payments after 31 players and coaches terminated their contracts with SMAFL and signed up with the pair's rival management company, Precision Sports and Entertainment Group, in May 2014.

Pickering and Pitcher had joined SMAFL in September 2012 but resigned on May 1, 2014.

The clients who left to go to Precision included Franklin, Gary Ablett, Jack Riewoldt and Dane Swan, and Sydney coach John Longmire. Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury stayed with SMAFL.

Agents for AFL players and coaches usually receive between 2 to 4 per cent of a client's contract with a particular club, as well as a 20 per cent cut from any endorsement deals organised for clients.

Sourasis had initially sued Pickering and Pitcher for $2.5 million in damages but this has now been reduced to $625,000.

Pickering is counter-suing Sourasis, alleging he engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct and misappropriated funds.

During the civil trial it was agreed between the parties that while individual players would be named during the trial, no one would mention in open court the actual sums being paid to players and coaches.

But there was evidence given about Pendlebury being in the Greek Islands when he realised Pickering owed him $90,000.

Sourasis claimed he was on the Greek island of Kos with Pendlebury in early October 2014 when three payments totalling $90,000 were mysteriously deposited into the Pies captain's bank account by Precision when he had never been their client.

The payments were believed to be for the 2013-14 marketing and endorsement deals for which Pendlebury had yet to be paid. Pickering told the court he had returned the money to Pendlebury after the player objected to him taking it.

The civil trial continues.
