Cleary was part of the the Queensland Under 19 Men’s team which was pipped in the final for the 2016 Under 19 National Championship softball title.
Queensland did extraodinarily well to reach the final but once there they went down valiantly to New South Wales, who had the advantage of hosting the tournament.
The competition for the 28th Under 19 Nox Bailey Shield was held in Blacktown, New South Wales from January 17 to 23.
The Queensland Men’s side stood their ground from the outset of the tournament.
They won an excellent nine out of 12 matches played in the lead up to the final.

Meeting with their New South Wales counterparts in the final match of the tournament, the Queensland Under 19 Men’s team continued to play with plenty of determination and spirit, but were eventually overcome in the end to be narrowly defeated 3-1.
Queensland may have gone down, but special congratulations must go to Cleary who was named as a member of the All Tournament Team following the conclusion of the championship.
The sterling performance from the Mount Isa talent was a great audition for the upcoming 2016 World Championships.
Meanwhile, the 2016 U15 Boys’ Regional Championships held concurrently in Blacktown saw another Mount Isa young star in action – and this time one who came away with a winner’s medal.
Mount Isa’s Ethan Horne and his Queensland Storm teammates were drawn to play New South Wales Metro Orange in the final of the tournament.
The Maroons came away with a 7-2 win to take home the championship title.
