Trent Barrett's dream start as an NRL coach has quickly turned into a nightmare with charges against Apisai Koroisau's arrest leading to more headaches for the rookie coach whose Manly side were ravaged by injuries at the Auckland Nines.

After recruiting the likes of Nate Myles, Lewis Brown and Darcy Lussick, Barrett was able to attract internationals Dylan Walker and Martin Taupau late in the off-season in a major boost to his squad ahead of his first season as coach. Koroisau was another big name addition to the Manly side, following Barrett from Penrith. But Koroisau's arrest could prove problematic for a Manly side who will be without back-up hooker Jayden Hodges for the season after he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament at the Auckland Nines.

Barrett had a perfect start to his coaching career, winning the opening two games of the Auckland Nines before injuries struck. His side were eliminated in the quarter finals, much to Barrett's relief, as he grew concerned about his injury ward.

Fairfax Media revealed on Monday that Koroisau was charged with illegally entering a property in Sydney's eastern suburbs.  He allegedly entered a Bondi property without the consent of the owners at 9.30pm on December 20.

Koroisau's matter was mentioned briefly before Waverley Local Court on January 25 but he did not make an appearance. He is due before Waverley Local Court on February 17.

He is formally charged with entering enclosed land at Chambers Avenue without a lawful excuse.

The NRL Integrity Unit is aware of the matter.

Manly confirmed the charge in a statement on Monday and said it had immediately informed the Integrity Unit.

"The incident follows some extenuating circumstances in Apisai's personal life," the club said in a statement.

"The Sea Eagles are providing Apisai with the necessary support during this time."

With Koroisau's immediate playing future in doubt, the Sea Eagles' hooking depth could be tested following Hodges' injury.

Utility player Jamie Buhrer will also be sidelined for at least for the first three NRL rounds after breaking his jaw, leaving the uncapped Matt Parcell as potentially the only hooking option for Manly.

Kiwi utility Lewis Brown could also fill in at dummy half.

This latest off-field incident comes after Sydney Roosters co-captain Mitchell Pearce was filmed performing a drunken lewd act on a dog on Australia Day while eight NRL players were stood down from Queenland's State of Origin team for a year after breaking curfew following an Emerging Origin camp.

Meanwhile, Pearce's fate could be decided by the NRL as soon as this week.
